Safe and Sound
Yes! We are safe and sound! Though Mike and I spent yesterday crazily making ice, filling every spare container with water, and having a Walsh family "camp out" in the basement :). I guess I went a little overboard... What can I say- it was my first hurricane. The boys and I were out of town for Irene and Mike had to brave that one alone. We haven't been out today, but everything out our windows looks just fine. Now the big question that is on Owen and Ben's minds: how will this impact Halloween?!

The Best Day Ever
Last weekend we went to the open house at the Germantown Fire and police department. And for Owen and Ben, this was the best day ever!!! Owen has been a police officer for Halloween the last 2 years and just decided that he wants to be a police officer again this year. Ben pretty much lives in the fireman costume we have. After leaving the open house, both of the boys decided they would like to be on the SWAT team or bomb squad! Start praying for them now! And their mama, that my nerves could survive knowing my boys have such dangerous jobs! I'm hoping this is a phase! Going to things like this probably just encourages them, though...

Apple picking
Last weekend we went apple picking at an orchard near our house. We had so much fun! The weather was beautiful and we picked 34 (!) lbs of apples!!! So far we have made apple pancakes, apple crisp, apple sauce, apple and oat scones, and some sautéed cinnamon apples. Yum! If you have a favorite apple recipe, please feel free to share! We are always open to suggestions! I checked out the Pioneer Woman's website and found a couple of new recipes to try this week. I'll report back soon!

They're Cousins
Grandpa had some extra Southwest points which he generously shared so Lucy and I could visit for a little girl's weekend! I almost didn't go because of a bout of mastitis ( even lactation consultants get it...) but I'm so glad I did. It was SO QUIET there! And the company was great! We miss them already!

New Little Sweater
I went to all the trouble of knitting this cute little sweater out of fancy schmancy yarn for Lucy and this is what she thought of it...
And apparently she liked it better after a little milk :) Thank goodness, right! I used sock yarn and tiny needles on this thing :). By the way, the pattern is Wee Wildflower by Alana Dakos and it was knit in Shalimar yarns Breathless in the American Beauty color way. It was knit with US size 1,2, and 3 needles.

Happy Belated Labor Day!
To celebrate Labor Day, we went into DC. It had been awhile but we had so much fun, we can't wait to go back. We started out with a picnic lunch at the sculpture garden, followed by some fun at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, followed by a visit to the Washington Monument and Lincoln memorial.

Orange You Glad...
It's a 3 day weekend?! Today we met my cousin, his wife, and their 2 kiddos (#3 due to arrive in 2 weeks!!!) for brunch at the Airways Inn in Frederick. It was so fun! It is right at the airport and we were lucky enough to see several tiny planes take off and land! And, look at all of those orange and yellow shirts! Maybe we all needed some sunshine- it has been a rainy weekend here! After we got home, no one napped, so the boys had a little Mario Kart tourney and Lucy and I spent the afternoon nursing while knitting! The boys ate out playing football and Lucy and l are doing some more nursing... I'm hoping this is a growth spurt and not her new routine! Tomorrow we are hoping to go see the dinosaurs at the museum of natural history. If its not too rainy, we might try to see some monuments, too! Hope everyone is having a nice weekend!

Smaller Sweeties
Owen is still enjoying kindergarden. Week one is almost done! Phew! It is strange without him around- we all really miss him! Thank goodness I still have my 2 little sweeties at home!
