Over halfway there!!!

This pregnancy is going pretty quickly, so far! I just can't believe I'll be 23 weeks on Saturday. Not to scare anyone, but Christmas Eve is a mere 17 weeks from tomorrow! Yikes!!! I'm feeling really good and enjoying this part of the pregnancy. I'm a little tired, but I entirely blame the 2 year old, not the baby! I haven't really posted any pics, so here you go...

6 weeks

8 weeks

13 weeks

This was during our vacation and my friend Laura's wedding... We did some very good eating, as you can see!

17 weeks

19 weeks... a major growth spurt for baby Walsh or just for me?!

20 weeks

And here he is... Yes, I said he!!! It's another boy!!!

The ultrasound tech said he's biting his nails, but I prefer to think he's sucking on his hand and he's going to be a self-soother (so we won't have to ever think of taking away another child's pacifier again!)

Cute little feet (that just love to kick my bladder!)

Skeleton baby profile.

Some Notable Firsts...

Today we met our friends at the Brookfield Zoo. We'd never been there before, but it is so much fun!!! My friend, Katie, was able to check out passes at her library so we all got in for free! Even better! The kids had a blast!

Owen's first carousel ride. He picked the snow leopard and loved it!

Auto dryers... another very big highlight of the day!

Another highlight of the zoo was a giant misting flower. The kids had a great time and stayed in the spray so long they got soaked.

Dryin' out on the bench

Getting a little tired

Look at what the kids were looking at in the monkey house. I didn't even realize what the sign said. I hope it was appropriate for 2-3 year olds!

So hard to get a nice pic of three little ones... they're all smiling, just not at the camera!

And a major first for Owen... First ice cream cone!!! He really did pretty good and he ate it all :o) I just wish I would have thought to take off his shirt first!!! That thing will be soaking for the next month :o) Enjoy!

And, the ride home. It was quite peaceful. Owen fell asleep almost before we were out of the parking lot! What a fun day!

Disordered Sleeping...

Well, we continue to have good and bad days with the sleeping. A few days he'll wake up at 6 and we think things are going better, then for the next few days he'll wake up at 5. I never, ever thought I'd be so happy to sleep until 6 am. The poor kid has been so tired and I just feel bad for him. He wants to nap around 10-11, so I've been trying to keep him busy and awake. Then, when he goes down around 1, he only sleeps for about an hour and wakes up saying "Owen tired." It is about the saddest and most pitiful thing! Here are a couple of funny pics of him asleep at the table last week...

I always thought Owen was just not one of "those" kids who could fall asleep at the table. I should have videoed it!

Hopefully things will get better soon. I think he's still adjusting.

This morning...

Owen woke up at 5:38!!! It is a step in the right direction at least, though still way too early. I laid on the floor in his room until 6 and made him stay in bed. He covered me up with his blankie. Very sweet. Then he watched tv in our room from 6-7:15. A much better start to the day, though I never thought I'd be happy to get up that early :o)

Not better...

Even with the gate, Owen was up and yelling in his room at 4. Any ideas/ suggestions??? Getting up at 4am a couple of days in a row will get you pretty desperate to try anything!

The "Big Boy" Bed...

All in all, things are going pretty well with Owen's big boy bed. Please read this post through to the end to make sure you get the WHOLE story...
Here it is the first morning when Owen saw his new bed. Mike had started putting it together the night before but it wasn't done by his bedtime, so he had one last night in the crib. When he woke up, he was so excited to try it out!!!

Lola was excited to try out the new bed, too!

This was his first night... He piled up his whole basket of stuffed animals into his bed. He called out to us crying, " There's no room for Owen." So we moved all of the animals off to the side and made room for Owen. Also, Owen has been pacifier free since moving into the new bed!!! Mike had been trying to take it away since Owen turned one and I had given it back after several days of no sleep and lots of tears on more than one occasion. This time, when we told him that his pacifier could not go into his big boy bed, Owen said, "Oh." He has asked for it back several times throughout the last week, but is very accepting of the fact that it is gone. Kind of amazing, but I just had a feeling it wouldn't be so hard when he was actually ready...

So, overall, things have been going pretty well. Since he figured out how to climb out of the crib, he has been getting up at 6ish every morning instead of his old wake-up time of 8-8:30. This is a little unfortunate, but, Mike has been throwing him in the jogger a couple of mornings a week to go for a run. It is great for Mike to get the exercise, for Owen because he loves to "go fast" in the jogger, and for me because I get to sleep in until 7:30 or so!

This morning, Owen came into our room around 3:45. He has done this one other morning since the transition to his new bed. Last time I put him back into bed and sang a couple of songs and he went back to sleep for awhile longer. I assumed this would work again, so I took him back to his bed, sang the songs, and told him to go back to sleep. I thought it had worked and I went back to bed. I must have closed our door. He came into our room at 5:15 and crawled up in between Mike and I with the camera and said, "I took pictures." Here are the pictures. The time stamp doesn't show up, but it does in our Picasa gallery so I thought I'd share them with you...

4:12 am

(a picture of his foot, he's sitting on the couch)

4:15 am
(looks pretty dark in the living room)

4:17 am

4:22 am
(Of course Mike was very proud he turned on Sportscenter)

4:29 am

So, you can imagine how surprised we were when we woke up and realized that he'd been up and roaming around the house for maybe even an hour and a half. He didn't take any pictures after 4:34, so there is definitely about 45 min of unaccounted for time. And he had to climb on top of our desk to get the camera out, in the dark. Thank goodness he didn't hurt himself or get into anything dangerous (that we know of.) Our house is pretty Owen-proof, but you never know. This afternoon we went to Target and bought the baby gate that looked the least likely for him to be able to climb over. We'll let you know how things go in the morning!

Please never buy me this...

Yeah, their slogan is "Don't wear a used drabby gown provided by your hospital... Deliver in Style!" To all of my friends who are labor and delivery nurses, or have had babies, or have even visited anyone in the hospital after they had a baby, can you believe how ridiculous this idea is?!? And they cost $50!!! If I ever take care of anyone who has one of those, I will absolutely insist they are not allowed to wear it in labor. Please, please, pretty please bleed and leak your amniotic fluid on our "used drabby" gowns. For real. Go buy yourself some new pjs or slippers or something that you might actually want to use again in your life. Has anyone actually taken care of someone who wore one of these?
